VEHR... The Future
Coming soon..
VEHR is a plug-in dashboard for Electronic Health Records systems (EHRs) that takes the old model of patient records, based on text documents organized into categories or tabs, and replaces it with a visual timeline. It also allows for integrated input of new information, diagnoses, medications, surgeries and labs, and vitals, all while retaining the big picture of the patient’s history. This has enormous advantages over the conventional presentation of records, including:
1. Information about the patient is contextualized within a narrative, a sequence of events that unfolds over time, just as patients and providers think about medical history.
2. Diagnoses, related Medications, Encounters, Labs, and other information are tightly coupled in one high-impact presentation rather than scattered across many pages and data formats.
3. Data entry (for diagnoses, medications, and other orders) is streamlined and coupled with the visual history.
4. Ergonomic advantages accrue from reduced forms and clicks required to initiate, understand, and complete a patient encounter.
The value proposition above is already here with VEHR 1.0 but development is underway for VEHR 2.0. Here is a preview of features that are coming soon.
- Integrated Object Entry - Enter objects (i.e. Diagnoses, Medications, Surgeries, and Orders) while remaining in the Timeline.
- Sparklines for visual display of numerical data.
- Power Filters/Searchable Timeline set - i.e. User can enter or select "Diabetes", and will have timeline elements filtered and aligned to show blood sugars/A1c's, Insulin/meds given, oral intake amounts, and body weight. "Fever" might pull all infectious diagnoses, antibiotics, full vitals, blood counts, and organ system labs.
- Additional specialty filters – e.g. Opthalmology view, Urology view.
- Decision-Support - Display host EHR decision-support tools in order/medication-entry pathways.
- Dynamic Tiles – Visual data densification. Horizontal color gradients and tile height variation for emphasis on problem or medication variation over time. Other visual aids like win-loss graphs for textual information (labs).
- Three and Four-Dimensional display of Patient data.
- Zoom Slider/Mini-Map - Survey the entire Patient Timeline at a glance while zooming in and scrolling quickly to earlier periods for context.
- Custom/SpecialtyTiles - Specific data fields for ophthalmology, urology, etc (eg lens correction for ophthalmology).
- Additional Accordion Regions - "Chief Complaints” and “Notes” tile/accordion regions.
- Auto-pulled text display - the Note Viewer won't have to be launched to review what was done with a Problem at a previous Encounter.
